GovSmart, the million-dollar IT solutions company was just named the fastest growing business in Charlottesville for the second year in a row and credits much of its success to Jiu-Jitsu. “You see exactly who the person is,” said GovSmart CEO Brent Lillard. “You really don’t know someone, I feel like, until you’ve rolled with them.”
Professionals by day and Jiu-Jitsu practitioners by night, company leaders have seen a change in some employees.
“I see smaller more easily intimidated people becoming more comfortable and then I see the bigger cockier person become a little bit more humble because they are getting beat up by people
much smaller than them,” said Lillard.
Physical fitness is also a big benefit.
“I myself lose five pounds of water weight every class,” said Lillard. “One guy lost over 160 pounds doing Jiu-Jitsu.”
Whether it’s for a good work out, self defense or simply a good time, Jiu-Jitsu has helped GovSmart form a bond that can’t be broken.
It’s this type of approach that makes this company such a tight group. One can only imagine the productive benefits this could provide for the business. I’m wondering when applying for a position with GovSmart, would you list your belt level under qualifications/skills?
